Service Description

Fuji is an active volcano straddling Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures. Fuji is Japan's highest independent mountain at 3,776.12 m above sea level, and its graceful appearance is widely known outside of Japan as a symbol of Japan. It has been the subject of numerous works of art and has had a great impact on society not only in terms of art, but also in terms of geology, including climate and geological strata. It is a stratovolcano composed of basaltic strata with a hanging curve, and its mountain body extends to the coast of Suruga Bay. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as a sacred mountain, especially because the summit was believed to be the seat of the great god Asama. To calm the eruption, Sengen Shrine was enshrined by the Ritsuryo (law-enforcement) government, and the Sengen faith was established. Fuji, and the mountain came to be recognized as a sacred site for Shugendo (mountain asceticism), and worshippers began to ascend the mountain. Fuji, and worship became more diverse over time, leading to the formation of the Murayama Shugendo and Fuji-ko sects. Today, there are many tourist attractions around the foot of Mt. Fuji, and mountain climbing is popular during the summer season.
